Qualified Emergency Specialists, Inc. (QESI) was formed in 1984 in response to Cincinnati’s need for better emergency department care. Since that time QESI has adjusted to the needs of their community serving two hospitals and three freestanding emergency departments. Their integrated health care system partner TriHealth, services the diverse healthcare needs of the greater Cincinnati area. This provides a flexible and diverse emergency practice experience contributing to a best in class retention rate for their physicians, with over 50% of the physicians in the group having been with QESI for more than 10 years.
QESI's hospital-based emergency departments have received emergency medicine excellence awards by Health Grades that place them in the top 5% nationally for lowest mortality among all emergency departments. Overall Cincinnati has been rated as one of the top cities in the nation for emergency care and QESI has made a significant contribution to that rating.
QESI has maintained an independent group despite the growth of corporate Emergency Medicine and the dynamic changes in health care. The four physicians who started QESI in 1984 wanted to keep physicians at the heart of decision making for the business. QESI has grown since that time to include more than 35 physicians and 15 Advance Practice Providers while still maintaining the ability of individuals to make a difference in both clinical decisions and practice management.
