Top 5 Austin Restaurants to Indulge While Attending AAEM 2015

Austin is a place unique to itself. It's a city that tells its citizens to "Keep Austin Weird."  From the music to the food to the people, Austin has found its own unique way into the hearts of Texans and those lucky enough to have visited.

The American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) is holding its 21st Annual AAEM Scientific Assembly in downtown Austin, Texas, from February 28th to March 4th at the Hilton Austin.

AAEM15 is shaping up to be another great event and EMrecruits team members, Bobby Anson and Lori Carlyle, will be in attendance at Booth #111 ready to share with you the exciting emergency medicine jobs our client partners have available across the country.  Don't miss your chance to win a Beats by Dre Bluetooth Speaker!

When you aren't enjoying the fantastic keynote speakers and other educational opportunities, however, be sure to check out our top picks to enjoy some of the best eats and drinks in the city. Each of them has something unique to offer your taste buds during Austin AAEM 2015.

Top 5 Austin Restaurants

1. Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill

Classic. American. Comfort Food. Moonshine takes you back to a simpler time. Comfortable and familiar, relaxed and easygoing, Moonshine greets guests like family. Serving up great cooking with an innovative take on classic American comfort food, Moonshine's menu satisfies even the big city tastes. Enjoy their specialty cocktails - yes, there is moonshine available - and the Green Chili Chicken Macaroni will make a childhood favorite, a new adult indulgence.

2. The Shady Grove

Nestles under the shade of the tall pecan grove, Shady Grove has been serving up Austin-inspired home-cooking, cocktails, sunshine and smiles since 1992.  Since opening its doors, Shady Grove has strived to be more than just a restaurant.  With an award-winning menu, an eclectic jukebox, and a sprawling, pecan-grove-shaded patio, Shady Grove offers an experience as unique as Austin. We recommend you try the Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken and wash it down with a South Austin Tea (spiked with Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey).

3. Congress

Sophistication, service, and execution are its hallmarks. Congress ascended to the height of Austin’s fine-dining category when it opened in 2010 — and it has received little company in the years since. Part of that may be due to Austin’s laid-back nature and suspicion of anything that seems too elegant. Part of it is because the restaurant set such a high bar. Congress does not make for an airless dining experience. It’s Austin’s take on fine dining. Enjoy a five-course tasting menu, a la carte options, or small plates, along with thoughtfully selected wine pairings.

4. Franklin Barbecue

A meat-smoking manifesto. Many consider Franklin Barbecue the best barbecue they've had from a sit-down restaurant in Texas. That’s why the lines are so long. That and a blend of cultishness and curiosity. Aaron Franklin smokes brisket with a pitch-black caramelized bark that covers meat and falls apart like red velvet cake. We recommend you try the brisket. It's exceptional.

5. Jeffrey's

Super steaks in a swank environment. Jeffrey’s is committed to Texas ranchers. The restaurant sources most of its beef from the Lone Star State and dry ages it. The restaurant was named one of the 2013 Top 10 Best New Restaurants in the country by Bon Appétit magazine. The steak tartare with crispy shallots and capers and massive lump crab cake refreshed by cucumber and jalapeno are two of the best appetizers in town and compliment their specialty cocktails nicely.
