The American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) is a democratic organization with over 8,000 members and it is holding its 21st Annual Scientific Assembly in downtown Austin, Texas, from February 28th to March 4th at the Hilton Austin. 1. Pack a picnic and head to the gorgeous natural swimming grotto Hamilton Pool.
Okay, alright, you caught us. 2. Try you best to two-step at the Broken Spoke.
Get your cowboy hat and boots ready! This dusty dance hall is a touch of authentic Texas just 10 minutes from downtown Austin. If you get to see Dale Watson play, you're doubly lucky.
3. Watch 1.5 million Mexican Free-Tailed Bats emerge from under Congress Bridge at dusk.
You read that right...Bats...in Texas. You'll want to be there at dusk...if you dare! The best vantage point is to actually stand on Congress Bridge. If that's too close for comfort, there are also boat rentals on Town Lake and hills nearby to picnic on.
4. Enjoy a dip in the giant year-round 70-degree spring-fed heart of the city, Barton Springs Pool.

5. Do some hipster gazing and coffee drinking at Spiderhouse.
Across from the UT campus, Spiderhouse has been the perfect place to indulge in a mid-day caffeine fix and immerse yourself in the scene of those "too cool" for the downtown bar scene for close to 20 years.
6. Go see your favorite movie like you've never seen it before at the Alamo Drafthouse.
This is the best move theatre in the world according big fans like Quentin Tarantino and Elijah Wood, plus all of Austin. Enjoy tasty food and intoxicating beverages like enjoying new and classic moves alike. They are known for doting their movie goers schedule with revivals, quote-a-longs, cult classics, and marathons.
7. Explore the eerily beautiful natural wonder of Longhorn Caverns.
Created over thousands of years by water on limestone bedrock, this is one of those places that feels like a different planet.
8. Wander through the wonder of the Cathedral of Junk.
It's exactly what it sounds like. A collection of junk that make you feel like your in a cathedral of junk. 9. Have your picture taken in front of the "i love you so much" graffiti on the side of Jo's Coffee Shop.
When a popular Austin-based musician spray painted "I Love You So Much" on the side of Jo's Coffee Shop, she just wanted to brighten someone's day. The five words of encouragement took on a life of their own and now hundreds, if not thousands, of people have come to take their picture with this spur-of-the-moment Austin cultural icon.
10. Spend one (ONE!) night on Dirty Sixth.
Sixth Street is known by those from and traveling to Austin as the bar-mecca capital of the city for University of Texas students, bachelorettes, twenty-somes, and those wanting to party like twenty-somes. You'll find yourself immersed with countless options to choose from that will please everyone from those looking for a funky dive bar, to those hoping for some excitement while singing loud along with dueling pianos.
