Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, On the Rise, Saving Lives
Alexandria, VA - It was an exciting day Monday, as the Alexandria community celebrated the groundbreaking of the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Emergency Department.
"Not only in the state of Virginia, but in the entire nation, our emergency department is ranked in the upper decile," Deborah Addoo, CEO of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, stated at the official groundbreaking for the hospital's new emergency department.
"I've been working in the emergency department here for nineteen years," said Rett Embrey, MD, Chairman of Emergency Services at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. "I've never been so optimistic about the changes that are going on."
Initial funding for the new emergency department was donated by Jeff Veatch, a community member and supporter of the hospital. "Last June I made a commitment to this hospital, to renovate and expand the emergency department."
Veatch pledged to donate $2 million to the project. This is also a matching gift. "I want to challenge not only myself, but our community to give back. This means that as the community gives money to support the emergency department, my family will match those funds dollar-for-dollar."
Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria is a true community hospital. It is a center piece in the community. Veatch has inspired many others in the community to join him in support of the hospital. This includes members of the Inova Mount Vernon medical staff.
"It really starts saying that people are connected. That people are interested. That people are commited. And this makes a difference to our success," said Addoo.
Commonwealth Emergency Physicians Mount Vernon (CEPMV) will provide emergency services in the new emergency department. The hospital's emergency wing is parent Inova Health's busiest, seeing more than 40,000 patients a year.
